The emerging problem of microplastics in drinking water has recently received much attention in scientific literature and in the broader public press coverage. Many consumers want to know how they can deal with this potential health concern.
Using SiMPore’s novel filters for microplastics capture and analysis and Parverio Inc’s proprietary analysis algorithms, a study was carried out to measure the effectiveness of consumer point-of-use water filter pitchers for removing microplastics. Five pitchers were challenged with microplastics and their respective capability for capturing such particles was analyzed. The study shows that the five pitchers were 97% to 99% effective at removing the microplastics. Surprisingly, the study also showed that these pitchers shed some of their filter media as other particulates.
